MASS, the only professional surf school in the Manuel Antonio and Quepos area opened its doors in July 2004. The idea for Manuel Antonio Surf School was born out of concern for the safety of the visitors coming to our beaches to surf and a desire to put years of surfing experience to use by teaching others. A tour and rafting guide with many years experience in the industry who was born to surf and with help from an acquaintance in charge of a local soccer team, together they found a suitable location for an office (just outside Quepos on the main road to Manuel Antonio).
After working side by side for a significant period they took their separate ways, the one that stuck around with this wonderful idea, was the passionate surfer with tons of ideas, where he then designed and had made some of the best surf boards to be found in Costa Rica (using a special light weight material for beginners), got full insurance, the only surf school in Costa Rica to be insured 100% by INS (Instituto Nacional de Seguros) for their personnel and students and............The rest is History!
Now, four years later MASS continues operating on a daily basis, with new student arrivals everyday… Since opening, MASS has taught hundreds of children and adults of all ages and nationalities to ride the waves. At MASS we strive for quality service at all levels (transportation, equipment, instructors, etc) and are very often rewarded with students returning for second, third or even more classes. It makes us very happy to see our students gain the necessary confidence and skills to begin a lifetime of surfing.
We are also extremely concerned about our local environment and for this reason MASS operate the following: -Daily beach cleaning
-Public Life guard service
-Educating locals on environmental issues
